There are two kinds of dreams. An honest dream. “The kind of dream,” writes Luke Mehall “that keeps you up at night, and wakes you up in the morning with a knot in your stomach that can only be untied with blood sweat and tears.” For Luke, climbing El Cap was that kind of dream. And then there’s the other kind of dream. The kind that starts out as a joke, then escalates to the level of the ridiculous. When Luke drove west towards Yosemite National Park, he was determined to realize one of each.

Man, this episode was whack! It wasn't about passion for wilderness or pushing one's limits outside; what happened to truly epic episodes that revolved around an entire journey, rather than an anecdote? Thinking back to stuff like "Cowboy and the Maiden" or "A Brief Moment in a Beautiful Place" or the one about the fella who's a fly guide in AK…that's the stuff I love. I don't intend to be negative - I aim to give feedback on what I think the community wants, and what I know I want - raw, inspiring, emotional, and yes, funny, stores about loving a life led outside.

I love The Dirtbag Diaries. A lot. Been listening for a long time. Every episode, including the archives, the site, everything. Love the stories of grit and survival and adventure, but what's the deal with that last episode, "Dreams Come True"? That was truly one of the most narcissistic self-serving things I've ever heard. Kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.
