If You Build It

Powerful ideas often demand that we leave the comfort of a safety net. We quit a nine to five. We take out a second mortgage on our house. Along the way, we can expect to be called a crazy one day and brilliant the next. In the late 1990's, Jeff Pensiero had an idea--to build a backcountry ski lodge that catered to snowboarders. It was outlandish--targeting a market that barely existed—and yet perfect.  But, like any dream, it took years of sweat, worry, right people-right time connections, and damn good perseverance to make it all look seamless. From the shores of Lake Tahoe to the world renowned slopes of Baldface Lodge, we bring you one snowboarder’s journey to create his dream.

  • Such a good listen. This is inspiring on so many levels. I often feel trapped in my day to day and the thought of doing what I love and getting paid for it hits me right where I live even if I'm a two planker.

  • As entrepreneur, this podcast hit so close to home. I know the part about quitting my job, being called crazy, then brilliant, then crazy again. The struggles for money, the amazing unlikely encounters with kismet moments and "luck" that remind me that this kind of crazy was meant to be. To be able to pursue passion, to work and sweat like crazy, to push back fear with a stick and breath deep with courage....This is living. To have others rally around you as a team, drop ego and allow the network of humankind and brains and talents come together for a common goal. This is life. Congratulations. Your story is spectacular. I feel so lucky to be one that understands it.
